(Belated) Happy 2017!

I know I'm terribly late for "happy new year " wishes.  My apologies for being MIA but I really hope everyone's had a terrific start to twenty seventeen!

With no good reason to justify, why I ignored my blog, I partly blame it on my laziness and partly on being a bit overwhelmed! Yes, overwhelmed from all the hype created around the New Year.

What are your plans for the New Year's Eve? Have you made a list of resolutions yet? Are you hitting the gym already? Feel the energy, be positive etc etc. The pressure of keeping up made me do exactly opposite of all this. Hence, my start to the year was a mellow one. 

Spent the New Year's Eve playing poker with family (losing big time), eating pizza and calling it a night at 12:15 am. This entire month went by doing the following- 

1) Catching up on Bollywood movies that I missed watching on big screen. Aye Dil Hain Mushkil, Rustom, Dear Zindagi and M.S Dhoni. Absolutely loved them all.

2) Wearing the chefs hat and trying my hand at new recipes that included Thai curries and baking thin crust pizzas! 

3) Practicing driving under the supervision of RJ with a mission to be able to drive independently by the month end.

4) Reading The legend of Laxmi Prasad -a book that I wholeheartedly enjoyed and was pleasantly surprised with not just Twinkle Khanna's writing skills but also her choice of genre. 

Having done all this without any pressure to perform makes me feel that I'm ready to get back into the game and put my best foot forward. So if any of you happens to be sailing in the same boat as mine, let's just say it's never too late. Because its not just the first day of a brand new year, but any day, that can be a new start.

Less is more! That's exactly what Kareena proved at her sister in law, Soha Ali Khan's wedding. The simple, understated and minimalistic look is carved to perfection and is already making headlines. Well deserved I say!

The champagne pink sari by designer Manish Malhotra goes well complimented with her emeralds and diamonds. But her glowing skin and gorgeous smile truly sets her apart! Brownie points for sporting the sindoor. Bebo/Begum alongside her Nawab couldn't look more adorable.

The Bollywood generation gap!

20 years back, somewhere in the 90's when I was in my teens..I popped a question at mom "Who's your favorite actor?"

"Rajesh Khanna" she replied.

Rajesh Khanna! Really? I was disappointed our choices didn't match. The Khans were ruling the 90's cinema and she had picked an actor from a completely different era. I failed to understand why. He didn't even act in movies anymore. Wouldn't a Salman or a Shah Rukh be a rather appropriate choice? I wondered!

Years have passed by since then. My fondness for movies and Bollywood remains intact. Salman and SRK have still continued their reign over Indian cinema with a long list of blockbusters under their belt. But times have changed too. Its equally evident how the newbie actors have entered. So popular and are doing extremely well. These are the same kids who were in school when DDLJ or MPK released. But are now sharing the same frame and fame in bollywood.

For the love of Indian cinema,  I do enjoy watching these new faces! Fresh out of the oven actors with enormous talent who have so much to prove and offer. Yet deep inside me those movies that I watched while growing up, those stars that I fell in love with in my teens...will always be the most special. Years down the line if I'm ever asked who my favorite actor is? I don't really know whom I'll pick, but I sure do know one thing: The generation from which he'll belong:))

And therefore Mom chose Mr. Rajesh Khanna, today I seem to know the reason why!

Last week DDLJ got recognition for completing 1000 weeks. I remember the effect it had on me when I first saw the movie in 1995. Every since, I've watched it umpteenth times. I'll watch it again in a heartbeat, feeling the same way I did for the first time. There can never be another movie like DDLJ, and there will always be only one Raj and Simran.

Below is the newly released trailer of the film on benchmarking 1000 weeks! I got goosebumps watching it. Let me know if you felt it too? What a movie, what an era, what romance! Agree?

Daawat-e-Ishq!

 

I love weekends! well we all do:) One of the favorite activities I like to indulge in over the weekends is catching up on movies. This Sunday watching Daawat-e-Ishq and enjoying it was a pleasant surprise especially because I didn't expect much and ignored the release in its first two weeks.

A rom-com that kept me entertained throughout while addressing the serious issue of dowry in a subtle yet strong way!

There is always a flip side to the story and sometimes that never gets exposed. This movie just strikes the right balance in not only bringing forward the act of dowry as a shameful practice but also

exposes how the anti dowry law is capable of being misused.

For all the fun, drama, romance and the social message go see it if you haven't already! Not to forget, you'll relish this Dawaat(e-ishq) a bit more if you happen to be a foodie!

Men in PINK!

Pink is for girls and Blue is for boys..! I think thats an old cliche and should be set aside. A man dressed in pink is symbolic to the re-birth of the hue as an unisex color that looks pretty on girls but also perfectly normal on a guy.

Breaking away from the set boundaries are my bollywood favorites who've managed to look pretty "hunk" in pink! who's your favorite!?
